About Joel Medina

Joel Medina spent his life devouring all things pop culture - for better and worse (he watched Final Destination way too young). He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a B.A. in Sociology that taught him how to combine his love of writing with an understanding of the modern world. This knowledge has taken him all over the country, from convention centers in LA to internships in Congress, and it helped him become the journalist he’s honored to be today.

Joel has been proud to flex his skills across a variety of mediums. He writes for publications like Collider and Pride about some of the biggest things happening in pop culture, has spoken on panels and podcasts about the impact of television on modern culture, and has been lucky to interview some of the industry's biggest icons while covering events like Comic Con and the Reality Star of the Year Awards. He works hard to amplify these messages through his journalism while fighting to uplift marginalized voices through his work with a nonprofit that advocates for LGBTQ+ communities at a legal and legislative level.

What I Cover

Joel works hard to bring his readers the stories he knows will impact them, especially the ones that wouldn’t be told otherwise.

A self-proclaimed nerd and cinephile, he is looking to cover all new releases and interview those stars who are defining the pop culture landscape today. His beats are the horror genre, reality television, LGBTQ+ content, and anything that could be considered “nerdy.”
